Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of the laity in supporting the economic development of the faithful through the Sinar Saron Cooperative as an expression of faith at Saint Mary Queen of Peace Parish, Mingar. The study highlights the importance of lay participation in Church life, particularly in socio-economic activities that improve the welfare of the parish community. This research employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving ten informants consisting of cooperative administrators and members. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the laity play an important role in developing the parish economy through active participation as cooperative members, involvement in savings and loan activities, support for cooperative programs, and strengthening solidarity and economic self-reliance. Their participation is influenced by economic needs, togetherness, faith awareness, personal motivation, cooperative benefits, management support, and family economic conditions. However, challenges remain, including limited capital, inadequate understanding of cooperative principles, and low member participation. Nevertheless, the Sinar Saron Cooperative serves as an effective instrument for empowering the parish economy while implementing Christian values through concrete actions.
